Keith C Ferdinand, MD, is Professor of Medicine in Cardiology at the Tulane University School of Medicine. He was previously Professor at Xavier University, College of Pharmacy and is a native of New Orleans' Lower Ninth Ward. Dr. Ferdinand has been with New Orleans East Hospital from its beginning. He is the past Chair of the National Forum for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention and has served as Chief Science Officer and past chair of the Association of Black Cardiologists (ABC).
Dr. Ferdinand has lectured nationally and internationally including Japan, India, South Africa, Italy, Jamaica and other countries on heart disease, especially in the African American population, heart failure, hypertension, diabetes, and high cholesterol. Dr. Ferdinand received national awards from the American Heart Association, the Congressional Black Caucus and other national groups. In 2018, he was named the Gerald S. Berenson Endowed Chair in Preventive Cardiology at Tulane School of Medicine.
